Editorial Policy

The standards that guide how we report, write and publish.

Last updated

Senior Consumer Benefits exists to help readers understand the benefits, money and everyday decisions that shape life after 60. This policy describes the standards we hold our work to.

Accuracy and clarity

We aim to get things right and to say them plainly. Facts, figures and program rules are drawn from primary and authoritative sources, and we prefer clear language to jargon. When a topic is genuinely uncertain or still developing, we say so rather than imply more certainty than exists.

Fairness and sourcing

We attribute information to its source so readers can judge it for themselves, and we link to official rules, forms and programs where they exist. Where a claim is contested, we try to represent it fairly rather than selectively.

News, analysis and opinion

We distinguish between reporting, analysis and opinion. Reporting sets out what is known; analysis explains what it may mean; opinion argues a point of view. We label material accordingly so the difference is clear.

Independence and conflicts of interest

Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial considerations. Advertisers and business relationships do not determine our conclusions. Where a potential conflict of interest exists, we disclose it or decline the assignment.

Updates and corrections

Rules and figures change, and published articles may be updated to stay accurate. When a change is material, we note it. When we get something wrong, we correct it transparently. See our Corrections Policy for how to report a possible error.
